I first heard about Pete Ashdown's Senate campaign about a year ago when Phil Windley mentioned it on his Utah Politics site. In the beginning, I was interested because of Pete's positions on technology and copyright, and because I was glad to see anyone challenge our long-time incumbent, Senator Hatch.
As I've followed the campaign over the last year, I've seen things progress significantly from there. Technology is still one of my favorite topics, but today I believe that Pete Ashdown will make a great Senator because of his belief in open and transparent government, his responsiveness to the people of Utah, and his ability to bring together great ideas from a variety of sources.
I don't remember the last time I saw a candidate that clearly and openly presented his views on so many important issues. In fact, I probably never have. Take a look at the "laundry list" on Pete's web site. Then, look at — and join — the discussion on the wiki. The barriers to public participation are coming down.
