And the sign war begins…

Last night, all of Pete Ashdown's campaign signs in the Salt Lake Foothill area, including a ten foot banner, mysteriously disappeared.

How do you describe the theft of a candidate's signs (which, by the way, were all on private property)?

"Predictable?" Certainly, and all the more disgusting for that.

"Juvenile?" Oh, yes.

How about "criminal?"

Unfortunately, when the candidate is a Democrat in Utah, you could also describe it as "politics as usual." The same thing happened in several areas two years ago with Scott Matheson's gubernatorial campaign signs, and it's happened in other races before and since.

Pete is offering a $500 reward "to anyone who can get video or a picture of an identifiable individual removing or vandalizing any Democrat’s sign located on private property." Pull out your webcams, folks.

Update: Rob Miller has offered an additional $500.

The sad thing is, I'll bet the losers who did it thought they were just doing their duty. Signs or no signs, I doubt Ashdown will have a snowball's chance in hell. It's too bad. I'd vote for a bowl of snot if I thought it could beat out Hatch. At least it wouldn't try to destroy the constitution and my MP3 player.
